As more drivers switch to electric vehicles, we install EV charging for fleets, in public car parks, and on-street, working with local authorities, bluelight organisations, and other public sector workplaces
Rooftop solar panels can significantly reduce public sector energy costs. We work with a variety of public sector bodies to make this happen, and to help achieve their wider sustainability goals
The public sector is critical in the transition to a low carbon future.
Investing for the long-term, organisations like Councils and Housing Associations can make a huge difference. They can shape a future incorporating solar and battery storage technologies, deliver social value in local communities, and reduce emissions from the buildings sector.
Reducing bills for tenants helps reduce fuel poverty, and solar panels for social housing directly achieves this. Solar PV can also help councils minimise their internal running costs, which retains greater funds for frontline services.
Likewise, councils and bluelight organisations (police, fire, and ambulance services) are crucial when it comes to the transition to electric vehicles. Operating high mileage fleets, they can significantly reduce public sector emissions once converted. Their transition is vital for improving air quality in communities, as well as for achieving national net zero targets. It’s a win-win too, as fleets will benefit from lower operational costs.
The UK government’s ban on the sale of all new conventional petrol and diesel cars by 2035 means real change in our transport infrastructure. Local authorities need to ensure their EV charging infrastructure can meet growing demand.
We support councils, NHS Trusts, bluelight organisations and other public bodies up and down the country, by installing EV charging infrastructure, solar, and battery storage.

As of Spring 2026, there are over 120,000 public EV chargers in the UK, as local councils rapidly expand their infrastructure. .
We help councils with charging options including:
Our Joju Charging team is one of the longest-standing and experienced installers of EV Charging infrastructure in the public sector. We support public authorities and bluelight organisations from feasibility studies, through to installation, commissioning and after-sales care.
We are on over twenty major UK procurement frameworks, including GCA frameworks (previously known as Crown Commercial Services), Fusion21, ESPO, YPO and TPPL/Hertfordshire.
We also offer fully funded EV Charging solutions to the public sector at zero up front cost.

Like any workplace, Councils, NHS Trusts, Police, Fire and Rescue services can all benefit from solar panels installed on the roofs of their buildings – whether that’s offices, operational centres, warehousing, libraries, schools, or hospitals. Rooftop installations give robust returns on investment, with the majority of electricity being consumed in buildings, directly reducing bills.
Projects like these deliver social value in our communities and send a strong public, decarbonisation message. They act as a clear demonstrator that going solar is beneficial for the environment, and financially beneficial too.
We also install solar car ports, which make great use of car parking space to generate energy from renewable sources. When combined with a battery storage system this can supplement building supply when required and also distribute power on demnd to any EV charge points too.
“Joju Solar have been instrumental in supporting North Lincolnshire Community Energy (NLCE) to roll out rooftop solar on Schools and Community Buildings in Scunthorpe. Joju always go the extra mile. They have engaged in social value activities and ensure all work is delivered to a high standard”.

As well as installing battery storage in public sector buildings, battery storage for social housing is becoming an important technology.
Battery storage for social housing can reduce tenant bills when appropriately deployed, storing cheap night-time electricity when used in conjunction with a time-of-day tariff. They can even be used independently of solar, allowing councils to reach tenants who do not have suitable roofs for solar.
Battery storage is particularly suitable for blocks of flats, or other public sector developments where there is a ‘landlords supply’. Here, the managing authority buys in electricity in bulk, and tenants are billed for their use via sub-meters. We developed a ‘between the meters’ battery storage model for a housing estate in Woking. Due to the benefits of aggregation, and the electricity tariff structure, it became some of the most cost-effective battery storage deployed anywhere in the country.
Over the coming years, councils will also need to actively deploy electric vehicle charge points into areas of social housing. Just as fuel poverty is a real concern, equity issues around access to electric mobility is also an important consideration.
As multi-technology specialists, Joju can integrate your electric vehicle charge point needs with solar PV and battery storage, helping councils develop holistic, low-carbon visions across both the transport and buildings sectors.
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council were among the first to recognise this. They implemented a rollout of 50 EV charge points across the borough. After realising this would lead to an increase in electricity use across their estate, they decided to offset this with solar power generation hosted on their own buildings. They complemented this with battery storage at some sites and even used the top floor of a multi-storey car park for rhe purpose!
Solar carports, at offices or on car parks, also offer an opportunity to deploy multiple green technologies holistically. Co-locating generation and EV charge points is a highly visual way of demonstrating a commitment to clean transport solutions too.
